The translated strings are in my json data so I don't need anything in the template. Not a real answer but it's easier to do for me.

Current i use ejs that can access locals and the functions in it. but i need it in the same way for doT...

i use i18n-abide, with ejs it work perfect. but the speed of doT is better, so i try to switch to doT, if i can get it to run... currently i'm not success... :(

You can use any functions in doT templates.
Helper functions can be passed to templates in several ways as explained in #172 (comment)
