Developers - Switch to release 4 for main

On Monday 6 Feb 2023 we will be updating ‘main’ to ‘

• version 4.0-SNAPSHOT’
• requiring Java 17 to build & run
• requiring Gradle for build

Minor Disruption from changes

During Monday I’ll be merging in some existing changes for the above, as well as some other build script changes caused by the move from Egeria-release-4.0 to main. You may find PRs don’t build, or are blocked during this time.

Actions needed

• You’ll need to ensure you’re running a Java 17 JDK to build and run
• make sure to update command line environment, and any IDEs such as IntelliJ
• pull the latest updates from main
• ensure you have gradle support enabled in your IDE (usually default)
• if using Intelli.J, right click on ‘Egeria’ in the maven tool window and select ‘Unlink’. Then go to build.gradle in the project explorer and select ‘Link’. The IDE may also prompt you automatically.

Next Steps

• Check your components. Are the built artifacts ok? Does everything work? Are the tests running properly?
• raise any issues/concerns via github or slack or in our developer calls
• In the next couple of weeks the ‘maven’ build scripts will be removed.

A few further changes were made, but the migration for core egeria is almost complete.

Please raise any issues you find.

POMs will be moved soon - once agreed on a dev/tsc call, so ensure to switch to gradle now.

Other repositories will also need migration, as they switch to using 4.x
