So far we used UI-Grid. I am not yet sure if ag-grid.com is actually better.

ag-Grid is deffo better! the ag-Grid forum has lots of people moving from UI-Grid to ag-Grid and everyone is happy.

Regarding grid, we should definitively have a look at the compatibility to angularjs2.
Valor software seems to be quite active and capable of implementing more complex angular2 components like tables, tree structures, etc. Some of these components are already available on their repository and you will get a first impression on what is coming next: https://github.com/valor-software/ng2-plans
