Got a clue. I have the OpenType version of Open Sans installed locally so I'm not (by default) using the web font version. If I disable the local installation, the problem is present:

I'll try to figure out if we're using a out-of-date version of the web font, in which case PR #3556 should fix this.

@sathomas : It would be good to confirm if #3556 fixes this, in which case we can just get that merged instead of fixing up the out-of-date font

Yep. That's the problem. PR #3556 does fix the issue

Maybe close this issue in favor of that PR?

Just be sure to disable any locally installed versions of Open Sans in order to verify ;^)
