I'm having crazy trouble straining the chai, pouring from the saucepan into the mug directly causes a lot of spillage, and the tea-strainer I have on top is tiny and doesn't catch all the tea leaves before it starts overflowing. What can I do?

Spillage from saucepan. I suspect this is because the saucepan I'm using does not have a spout. Worth investing in one. In the meantime, I'd try and pour from the saucepan into a different bowl that has a better spout, and then from that bowl into the mug.
Tea strainer too small - Perhaps use a larger strainer while incorporating method 1 above and strain it into the bowl? You can even do a second strain into the mug if you feel like.
