[Feature Request] Automatic report generation

Would it be possible to automatically generate a hardware report on rebuild/install based on the current system?
It would serve the use case of a generic config that can be deployed on any machine without generating a hardware configuration or report.
This probably goes against the nix philosophy, but it would be a nice addition.

Personally, I need this to be able to deploy NixOS on servers with different hardware and have them automatically update their configuration based on the content of a git repo.
