Is it a bug?

  • I know this is an issue with the app, and contacting Mullvad support is not relevant.

I have checked if others have reported this already

  • I have checked the issue tracker to see if others have reported similar issues.

Current Behavior

Hello,

I reviewed the open and closed issues related to SMB shares and didn't find my specific problem, so I wanted to share my experience.

When I connect to Mullvad VPN using the Linux desktop client, accessing my SMB shares is very slow. After opening a share, navigating to an internal folder within that share remains slow, but accessing any subfolders becomes fast. However, if I try to access a sibling folder from the root directory, it slows down again.

I can confirm that Local Network Sharing is enabled, and I can eventually access my local SMB shares.

Expected Behavior

I might be misremembering, but I recall that SMB access used to be quite fast, and I experienced higher transfer speeds as well. However, I could be mistaken. To be honest, given all the other work being done on this application, I consider this issue to be a low priority. It’s still functional; it’s just slower than I anticipated.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Connect to Mullvad VPN
  2. Access SMB share
  3. Wait an unusual amount of time
  4. Connect anyways :smile
