okay - first pass...fwiw 👺

I used the api.github.com interface to get all the current labels to see in one place.
Out of 210 labels there were only three descriptions. All of the descriptions
below are my interpretation and therefore require review.

I left blank anything I did not feel had a good handle on. Listing here allows for easier review and
editing. Once complete we can use the API to import the new descriptions. I can do
the code, but I do not know if I have access rights to do write operations.

I think the most important editing has to do with adding less obvious keywords
to some of the labels, in particular the workbench-* labels as some of these are subtle.

Some curation including identifying possible labels that could be combined or have their
names clarified is also easy looking at the list.

There are some obvious language labels missing IMHO:

Awesome, thanks @cleidigh!

We collect the languages we only have basic support for under languages-basics (like Python, C#, C/C++). Their full-fledged support comes through extensions. We should be fine without adding extra labels for these.

I'll review the list and post an updated list here.

I was concerned about repository OAuth write access, but got it working 👍
I used Python, pretty basic script , but amazingly slow for each label access.
Have you used the API in this way? Would be interested to know if you've seen slow access.

Anyway, all label descriptions in...
BTW I have an idea for showing the labels live. I will prototype and show you.

I have used a Node.js module to access GitHub, not sure about the performance. many small requests might be slow when run sequentially I guess.

Curious about what you mean with 'showing the labels live'.

Apparently the filter boxes when searching for labels in the issue and on queries also match on the descriptions. That makes it hard to filter for 'bug' or 'feature' because these terms occur in many descriptions.

@cleidigh I'll look into removing generic terms from the descriptions and will post an updated list. Could you then upload that again?

Thanks! Let's see how things go with the descriptions in first. I'd rather avoid the maintenance of a table in the wiki (or the webhook).

Currently we do not have any labels referencing the panel or activity bar. I've handled several recent tissues on these topics. Do you guys think the following two labels would be useful:
workbench-panel
workbench-activitybar

@cleidigh nice observation. In my experience there is not that many issues that go under that category.
Currently we put those issues under workbench-layout and I think we can keep doing that for now.
Also we plan to do some workbench layout using the grid, so I expect there will be less panel specific bugs in the future.

Any problem with me modifying the current description to capture those items for those of us with less "insider knowledge" 😀
My goal with the descriptions was to make them as clear and complete for everyone doing issues.
