tmux status bar flickers on fast output #18414

Other Software

tmux 3.4, bash 5.2.21(1), ubuntu 24.04.1

Steps to reproduce

  1. start tmux
  2. split screen horizontally
  3. loop apt install on the top pane (while true; do apt install; done)

Expected Behavior

Intense apt output

Actual Behavior

Intense apt output with tmux status bar flickering and moving up and down joining the party

doesn't happen on putty (the one on the left)

Thanks for filing! A few questions from the team:

  • Does this repro on WT Preview or Canary /?
  • What's your TERM environment variable outside of tmux?

It seems fine on 1.22.3232.0. I'll use it a bit more to confirm that it's actually fixed.

The TERM is xterm-256color.
