Hello, @jimbobbennett. Upon translating, should I focus on the syntactic translation or the semantic implication? In other words, should I just translate the sentences as it appears or arrange it so it does make more sense to natives?

Both please! I and the other folks involved in this curriculum don't speak Japanese, so if you do both we can get involved in discussions as well.

I would translate it so it makes sense to Japanese speakers and arrange as necessary to achieve this.
