When I add a folder with images, this program automatically starts compressing all the files inside for some reason. Where did it compress them? There was no information about what it is doing and where.

It use pngquant.exe or cjpeg.exe locally.
You can find them in your software installation directory.

First of all, this program should not do anything by itself when I am just adding some files to it, the user should decide if or when the program will start processing anything, not just do things without user input or knowledge.

Secondly, the installation is completely automatic, without knowing in advance where it installs itself or having the option to choose a path for it.
