i would expect the Bing imagery available in MapSwipe and JOSM to be the same, but...
(left is JOSM, right is tutorial in MapSwipe)
this would also matter in the MapSwipe data outputs. if the MapSwipe-ed imagery is older/newer when identifying structures or validating footprints, it will result in incorrect results when compared to OSM mapping being done with older/newer imagery.
EDIT: the tutorial does appear to match the Bing layer that you can pull up in QGIS
