Tileset and Map Properties could be easier to access #3101
Comments
Totally agree! Have you also thought about maybe to view the Tileset Properties by default? So this could be a bit in a lower window by default and the Tile Properties in an upper placed window? So they are clearly separated? |
I'm against having Map/Tileset Properties getting their own panel, as that takes up valuable screen real estate for something that's not needed most of the time, so one would still have to go through the trouble of opening those panels when they're needed, with the added trouble of closing them when they're not. I also don't think the toolbar is a great place. That option would work for Tilesets, which have only a few items in the toolbar, but for Maps, the toolbar already has a lot of things, and I bet more will be added in the future with new tools. It's also doesn't fit semantically into any of the existing icon groups on the toolbar, IMO. I'd rather have a "Document Properties" button on the Properties Panel, in the bottom right. As I mentioned on the forum, the drawback to this method is you'd need to have the properties panel open to be able to use it, so you'd have to go through the menu the first time, but this is consistent with all other things to do with properties. If you need the document properties so often that you'd like an easier way to get to them, chances are you keep the properties panel open most of the time. At least that's the case for me. Properties Panel is love, Properties Panel is life. Edit: Having the asset Properties in the right-click menu on the document tabs would also be nice, since that's an intuitive place to look for something to do with the asset. |
Good points, eishiya! Then I would also go for a solution for an optional panel to be toggled on / off like the others are. |
The Tileset Properties and Map Properties are currently only accessible through the menu, which is somewhat hidden. Maybe a button should be added to the toolbar.
