Is Buddy required for searching to work in 6+?

it's not clear to me if Manticore Buddy, a sidecar daemon written in PHP is required or optional?

If one wants to use manticoresearch for searching just like in v5 (no columnar nor secondary indexes) - will starting only searchd do the job as in v5 or running something else is a must in v6?

Buddy is optional and doesn't currently affect searching functionality in any way. Some other functionality though (e.g. SHOW QUERIES and auto-schema) requires a running Buddy process.

No problems but we don't plan to use it (not required for us) and was not sure if it's possible in v6.

OK. Just want to say that we did our best to make it as painless to use as possible:

• searchd starts Buddy automatically if it finds it, eliminating the need for manual initiation.
• searchd also restarts Buddy in case it's terminated for any reason. You won't have to monitor or restart it manually.
• Our system doesn't interfere with the global PHP binary. We use a custom PHP version called manticore-executor. This eliminates the need for apt install php or ensuring the availability of necessary modules. Everything is set up automatically and is fully isolated from the host's PHP.
• As for installation, there's nothing new: yum/apt install manticore manticore-extra gets the job done.
