I've just discovered Lucide (thanks, guys!) and Feather icons and am replacing all the icons in my app with these.
During the transition, I needed to replace this icon
which is effectively an
arrow-up-down
with a circle, plus filled. I was tempted to request another version but then wanted to suggest an idea and get some feedback from you, who are much more experienced in this field than I am.Would it be realistic to have some way of specifying a predefined border (
circle
,square
,octagon
, etc.) around any icon? This would effectively eliminate the
x-circle
,x-square
,x-octagon
and leave onlyx
with the option to have a border decided by an attribute (for example), still providing all the versions to the end-user.Pros: The results are clear - a significantly smaller number of named icons in the library and a significantly larger number of icon versions (with the given borders).
Cons: I understand that not all icons are fit for having a border but, considering the good design guidelines and manual size adjustment, perhaps they would still look good?
In my case, I would then simply use the
arrow-up-down
and addcircle
attribute (or something) and have the version I'm looking for. Plus eventually specifying afill
value. But that's not relevant for this discussion.Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
