Just an idea, but I like it: Add a narrator (and therewith maybe some story-like factor), who "helps" the player at the beginning, gives hints, or tells what he should/could to (to achieve goals...).
Further idea: model the narrator as real "person" (or ghost, or whatever) in the world (like in Black and White the two guys who are your conscience)

British English? I am asking my russian-german-british friend (@cfrahnow: Alexej) to speak some words if we have some. I also know some native speakers, but I don't have a strong contact to them anymore.
To the figure: I would think of a butterfly-fairy-like glowing figure ( O:bug:O The Os are wings.). The contrast to a man's voice would be awesome, we would kid about the awful but known Zelda-companion and it would be extremly easy to synchronize and model.
