Add confirmation dialog when importing key maps #1487
Comments
Are you aware of the 'back up everything' and 'restore' options in the 3 bar menu? That sounds like it will do what you want |
No, I'm talking about being able to share with your friend a cool key map you worked on.
|
If the objective is to spread the usefulness of the app, this is one great way to do it. I have spent hours figuring out how to key map accessibility and other features, but the only way to share that is to explain how someone else can manually do it. Being able to import other folks' work is a way to expand the audience.

Years ago we floated the idea of putting community -shared example key maps on the website, but there wasn't much interest. You can share and import other people's key maps just by sharing the backup file, so in a sense that's already implemented |
Okay, I didn't realize that could be done, but now that you mention it they are in a zip file, do yeah I guess you're right, though I suppose you could't just backup/restore selected ones?
The problem with growing your market share is offering enough features before they are needed to create the demand. It's tough to always do, but rarely does demand and supply meet nicely in the middle.

You can select specific key maps to back up by long pressing on a key map and then multi selecting, and in the 3-dot menu there is a button to back up. But you can only restore all the key maps in a zip file. |
Agree.

In that vein, being able to actually name the key maps makes that process even more helpful so you can refer to specific ones you're sharing more easily.

Let's make this a simple confirmation dialog Link with #1497 |
Developer TODO (don't remove)
Allow the ability to share key mappings with other users by saving and importing them. Create a place online where people can upload them.
