Smokey Pottage

Serves two. Total time >6 hours.

Adopted from The Gourmet Vegetarian Slow Cooker.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups split peas
  • 1 ounce mushrooms
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 small tomato
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 bunch of chard

Spices

  • Smoke powder
  • Chiles

Instructions

  1. Chop the 1 onion and saute for 10 minutes until it starts to brown.
  2. Split the chard leaves from the stems. Save the leaves for later. Add the chard stems, plus all of the other ingredients, plus 1 1/2 tsp smoke powder and 1 chile, plus water, to the pot and slow cook for 6+ hours.
  3. About 30 minutes before serving, add the chard leaves.
