I use rox as a desktop icons manager and it works really well. But I'd like there to be an option to open folders in another file manager than rox when clicked, so the desktop can be rox, but I can use another file manager for other purposes. Is this already possible? If not, this is a feature request.

I also use Rox to manage the desktop. I have a few icons on the desktop which open folders in Caja (I also use Mate from time to time). Just drag he folder to the desktop, and edit it to call your favorite file manager. In my case I use caja /home/frank/whatever-folder. Very simple.
That works too, but then you can't drag files to the folder and folders dragged to the desktop don't show that behavior by default. Starting a file manager via command is more of a hack.
