I'm suggesting making Minecraft cartography great again (although it was never really that great to begin with) for pre-generated maps (e.g. with Chunky) with the ability to hook into the Squaremap rendering process by means of ingame cartography.
Basically, areas on Squaremap will only be rendered if a player makes an ingame map of the area. Configuration options would include to either strictly conform to the zoom size that the player chooses, or to ensure that e.g. too large areas won't be rendered (basically a max zoom and min zoom that would be respected when starting the rendering process). Subsequent cartography events for the same area would naturally update Squaremap. I would also suggest some sort of cooldown period so that it's not possible to issue thousands of rendering requests.
