Google provides a static image API, where you just specify a URL that encodes a polyline and markers and image boundary, and it gives you a static image with your stuff rendered to it. You can use external images, too, so it seems you could fully replicate the web display as a static image - suitable for saving, sharing and mobile phones.
Whether the effort is worth it, on the other hand...
