We're testing this on some of jest-community packages and eventually want to release Jest automatically based on commit messages. Wanted to have a reference to keep track on this.

Ahhh, yes. Would love this!

Main blocker right now is that https://github.com/atlassian/lerna-semantic-release is pretty unmaintained.

Luckily semantic-release has been recently refactored to support plugins, so we should be able to create plugins allowing Lerna based repos to work without having to fork the whole project. See semantic-release/semantic-release#193 (comment)
