Summary

Hello, I'm facing issues with spaces after the 🕵️ in the following text: find 🕵️ the space 🤷 why is it not there? In particular, the space is visible in vim, but not in helix. Here's how vim renders that text:

but with helix, the space character is hidden behind the emoji (it doesn't happen for the other emoji):

This is with helix 23.10 in gnome terminal on ubuntu 22.04

Reproduction Steps

In gnome terminal on ubuntu:

echo "find 🕵️ the space 🤷 why is it not there?" > example.txt
hx example.txt

Helix log

~/.cache/helix/helix.log
please provide a copy of `~/.cache/helix/helix.log` here if possible, you may need to redact some of the lines

Platform

Linux

Terminal Emulator

Gnome Terminal 3.44.0 for gnome 42

Installation Method

Ubuntu PPA
