Lucky. An "about-us" repo. Who are The Guardian?

In 2024 it is highly annoying that The Guardian (which I think is a newspaper I respect) can only be reached via a mysterious social media platform called "X" which - many Guardian articles learn me - is run by some cartoonish evil villain that came straight from a Bond movie. Or rather can't be reached, as each click on an X-handle redirects to a sign-up dialog to this terrible platform.

Isn't it high time for The Guardian to launch their own independent Fediverse instance? Independent journalism needs independent channels and contact points, right?

BBC's experience setting their own instance (along with multiple mastodon accounts) may serve as an example/inspiration.

They shared their experience here: https://www.bbc.com/rd/blog/2023-07-mastodon-distributed-decentralised-fediverse-activitypub

Ooh yes please. Everything in flipboard federates but I’d love to interact with actual journalists in the fediverse. I won’t go visit them at X / Twitter.
