Crashes when I try to change fullscreen settings?

I prefer to play my game in borderless windowed mode but for some reason every time i play, as of a few days ago, the game is set to fullscreen, this seems to hinder my ability to take screenshots the way i like to, and is causing some other issues, (acting weird when i try to minimize or pull up other windows for instance) I went into setting to change this but as soon as I hit "apply" the game crashes???
why is this happening? was this part of a recent update? I'm very confused
