Value Prop

By introducing the concept of an online Enterprise migration, customers migrating from GitHub Enterprise Server (GHES) to GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency can continue using their Enterprise while the Enterprise's assets (ex. Repositories) are being migrated. In doing so, an Enterprise's can migrate without having their development teams experience downtime.

Expected Outcome

Online Enterprise migrations mitigate business risk when migrating between GHES and GHEC with data residency by eliminating the need for developer downtime. This allows the customer's Enterprise to continue being used while its data is being migrated. By eliminating the business risk associated with developer downtime, GitHub's migration tooling will be able to migrate a wider breadth of Enterprise assets and handle larger repositories.
