Ah, this is an oversight and should not be this way. What are the typical close tab vs close window bindings on something like Gnome Terminal or Konsole?

Konsole doesn't have any default keybinds for closing the surface or the tab: only close window (Ctrl+Shift+Q) and close session (Ctrl+Shift+W)

The default close tab keybind on gnome terminal is ctrl+shift+w like it now is in ghostty, close window is ctrl+shift+q (quit everything)

I cant seem to find a close tab or close split keybind by default for konsole they do have
ctrl+shift+w to close session and ctrl+shift+q to close window (says quits konsole)

close session seems similar to close surface it closes both tabs and splits

close session for konsole 23.08.5 seems to only close one "surface" at a time for me

is there any update on this? I currently rebinded ctrl+shift+w from close_window to close_surface, which seems more sensible.
