Do I have the option to use HTML syntax in my content files or is markdown the only supported syntax at the moment?

Actually, HTML works just fine inside Markdown. Just code away in the .md file.

Yup you can code in HTML in the content of the .md file. Also with Markdown Extra (coming in 0.9.0) you can even put markdown in the middle of your HTML :)

However if you are purely doing HTML in your files, the best option is to turn off the markdown processing in your page header (or site-wide in you user/config/systeml.yaml as this will speed things up:

process: markdown: false

NOTE: Even if you are using HTML with markdown turned off, the files still need to be .md files. Perhaps this is something we can change later.

OT. I wish that these page headers weren't called page headers. HTML already has headers. Could this be something else, maybe page front matter, since it's YAML?

Yes we do call it YAML front matter in some places, we probably need to unify this in our docs.

I think the answer has been provided. Closing.
