With the proposal from issue #217 , we primarily made changes to the beginning parts of the large dataset process. Specifically: how/when the governance team and root key holders create the LDN multisig entity, which notaries are added to that multisig, the threshold of notaries required to award DataCap. We did not make changes to the allocation calculations at that time.
In this proposal, there was a checkpoint of 100 PiB of DataCap, which we are approaching. We brought up this situation in discussion #327 and reviewed it during the notary governance calls on Dec 7th. We'll link to those recordings below when they are available.
In that discussion post and on the calls, there were some ideas around possible future proposals and changes (specifically around the DataCap allocation calculations, such as the 4th allocation reaching 400% of the weekly requested). We did not hear any strong concerns from the community regarding the current process as outlined in 217, so the governance team has the following proposal:
We continue the large dataset process as outlined in issue 217 through at least Q2 2022. New proposals and changes will be made and discussed during this time.
In the meantime, we are continuing to make modifications and improvements to tooling, as well as proposing new changes. For example, there are new discussions/proposals coming regarding scale of allocations.
If you have strong opinions on the LDN process changes that were made in issue 217, please comment below. Otherwise, we would like to move forward with this proposal to unblock new large dataset clients before the end of the month.
