What's your idea?

A third alternative, in addition to "Gap to leader" and "Delta to average", could be "Delta to reference lap".

When chosen user can input a "reference lap time" (a reasonable time could be given as default), and that is used to calculate a "reference race time" to then the delta (the value shown) of every driver is calculated as a delta to the "reference race time".

A lap, or an average lap, from previous a race or the qualifying could be used to calculate the microsector times so that they are reasonable and add up to the "reference lap time".
