In a pairing chat with @SteveDMurphy, a question was brought up on whether we should be annotating the database storing the usage analytics logs.

This could do a couple of things:

  • use the product we're trying to get others to use
  • an example of the practical workflow to apply fides to a system with independent parts

Question(s) that came up:

  • where should this annotation be stored? fidesctl or fideslog?
  • When/How should the evaluation happen?
  • Are policies universal or do you have to have separate policies for each component of the system?

This is definitely something that we want to do. I believe the this repo should annotate the Snowflake DB with which it interacts, and fidesctl should include fideslog as a system annotation. Thoughts?

@PSalant726 correct! We need to set up a centralized fidestl server, and then fidesctl will include fideslog as a dependent system

so fideslog will have both a system declaration and a dataset declaration
