Unfortunately it's still a standard part of docopt.rs's API. Once that's updated, then it will be possible to convert a lot of my projects.

Got it. Looks like they're tracking this on their end in docopt/docopt.rs#128.

OK, rust-serialize is no longer required by docopt, so I'm eliminating it gradually from all my Rust projects. Thank you for letting me know about the deprecation!
