All start commands display help screen

When I try to run in from Emacs Eglot, I get the following:
error in process sentinel: [eglot] -1: Server died

When I run ./next_ls start --stdio I get the help dialogue. In fact, haven't found any commands to run that indicate the server will work. Surely I'm missing something. Any help or referral would be greatly appreciated.

You’ll notice in the help output that there is no start subcommand.

It’s just nextls —stdio
