Persist website prefs

Light/dark mode settings should persist over reloads of the website. Use local storage to store information.

My name is Nandom Mamdam a GSOC aspirant, I was browsing through the issues list and found this issue I believe I can work on. I have set the project locally on my laptop and everything is working fine I have read the contribution guidelines and all the other necessary documents.

I was wondering if it would be possible for me to claim this issue and start working on it. If so, could you provide me with any additional information or guidance on how to proceed?
