By having the JSON wrapper though you have more options for how to use that data perhaps from other tools than eldarion-ajax in parallel. What is the motivation for this?

I only have the option to work with html. The server side can only return html and as there is no way to configure it in "eldarion-ajax", so I thought it would be a good proposition for you.
Even because your plugin will be more flexible if you give the possibility to work with other content.
