Concerning privacy, cleaning history, cookies... is not enough.

For example in Safari:
Several files/history/logs can not be deleted/blocked/viewed from within an application preferences/settings/tools.

Some of this traces might interfere with other privacy tools/settings and leak data.

Files with traces of visited sites

  • /Users/bart/Library/Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
  • /Users/bart/Library/Cookies/HSTS.plist

HSTS.plist list all the sites you have visited which are implementing httpS!

/Users/bart/Library/Safari/

  • WebpageIcons.db
  • WebFeedSources.plist
