When attempting to install packages with setup-headers.sh:

Virtualbox will not work, instead will it encounter an error relating to 3.14.0 kernel headers. I assume this means that they have not been installed.

I don't know how any of this works, so forgive me if it's my fault.

Could you please post the complete output when running sudo sh setup-headers.sh They are indeed not installed, so Virtualbox will not work.

All done now, you can install virtualbox. Note that you need to log out of your chroot

Ok, looks like there is something with the 3.14.0 header package. I need to rebuild them. This however will not be before the weekend.

The problem seems to exist with all header packages.
For testing, I added lines for all header packages in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/crouton-packages.list:

workaround is to just download .deb files from the appropriate /pool/main/l folder in the github repo.

3.8.11, also I tried docket machine after that and docker it works ok with nat . My chromebook is Hp 14. New to chrome os, but a lot fun thanks to crouton!

Sorry guys a bit too busy it will take some time to update the repo hope you all have some patience. Indeed the current workaround is downloading directly the deb files.
@sammcveety AFAIK there shouldn't be any chromeos device with i386 on kernel 3.14.0 all are 64bit. Are you using a special build? If you want it to use on a i386 chroot with a 64bit kernel then you will run into problems. You still would need the 64bit kernel headers, else the modules build wouldn't work with the chromeos kernel.
@anonby For 3.18.0 it is a different story, they are now using build numbers on there kernel. I think it will be a lot of work to support those, because they need very frequent updates. See dnschneid/crouton#2642

All done now, you can install virtualbox. Note that you need to log out of your chroot
and start it again to load the modules needed for virtualbox.

@goldenforever Yes, it is still broken, currently I just don't have the time to fix it. You can update your chroot like normal when you remove /etc/apt/sources.list.d/crouton-packages.list
When you want to install the kernel headers just download the *.deb files from this repo directly and install them manually. Or build your own https://github.com/dnschneid/crouton/wiki/Build-kernel-headers-and-install-Virtualbox-(x86)

It seems the bad header line is related to http response headers served by github
see: XavierBerger/RPi-Monitor-deb#8 (comment)

I've created a fix that uses a CDN to serve the repo https://rawgit.com/ see pull request #46
