There is standard name variants for (very)(light) rains in russian that depends on "mm/hour":

Can you give mm/hour values for very-light-rain, light-rain, etc?

There are standard terms in English, too, that we blatantly ignore :) We prefer using whatever is appropriate colloquially, rather than what is appropriate technically. (This is because most users of the software are not meteorologists and do not understand the technical uses of various terms!)

However, the values for rain are (very approximately):

no-rain: 0mm/hr
very-light-rain: 0mm/hr–0.4mm/hr
light-rain: 0.4mm/hr–2.5mm/hr
medium-rain: 2.5mm/hr–10mm/hr
heavy-rain: 10mm/hr+

Values for snow are (also, very approximately) three times this.

Note that these values may vary (slightly) in the future as we continue to tune our software!
