With #29 adding automated deployment from GitHub to SVN, should we have a main branch that is stable and a development branch that is where we merge new features and prepare for new releases?

The advantage of such a setup is that we can then use WordPress Plugin Readme/Assets Update action to update just readme files, assets, and the 'tested up to' frontmatter without affecting the rest of the plugin.
