Since Shapely geometries are unitless, users will need to explicitly convert between lengths and Mercator units to use:

  • buffer()
  • simplify()
  • distance()
  • area()
  • length()

It would be more convenient to provide alternative functions that take length parameters directly, or return (square) meters.
