@stkent Do you think of completely migrating to Kotlin (plugin code and gradle build files) or only plugin source code?

IMO I'd prefer to start with the source code, since that's where most of the work is done => the impact would be greater. But it's @btkelly's call as to whether or not this happens, hence the 'question' label.
