Self Builds #254

I have built Chromium Legacy before via the instructions. I've never been able to produce a build that works in Lion like the official ones—they always crash—but I did get a build that worked on 10.9, and IIRC 10.8. However, the instructions are usually outdated, and I imagine they are outdated right now (relative to the latest versions of Chromium Legacy). I recommend trying to build with a copy of the Chromium Legacy tree from around the same time that the page was last updated (which seems to be September 2023). Note that while Chromium Legacy is of course compatible with legacy versions of macOS, it should be built on a modern version of macOS. I used a Virtual Machine, although of course this has a performance impact. IIRC it took somewhere between 12 and 24 hours for a build to complete. Also, make sure the VM has a lot of free space, I remember I originally set up a VM with 100 gb and it was too small. It's... not something I'm eager to try again, to be frank. :) But, I also hope that won't discourage you too much! |

With no new releases of chromium legacy since May’24 it appears this project has effectively stalled. Hopefully blueboxd will resume someday but for now I’m getting tempted to have a go at self building. Has anybody had a go at following the instructions on the Building page? I appreciate it will likely take a long time so, before having a go, was wondering if others might have experiences to share.
