Busy looking for on-premise / self hosted S3 options, and RIAK S2 popped up, but seems the last packages/etc. was for Debian 7, which begs the current status for long term or enterprise support?

It is in fact maintained and actively developed, at https://github.com/TI-Tokyo/riak_cs.

Sorry for, er, delayed response.

I spent quite some team looking exactly the same. At first glance, riak_cs looks completely abandoned and Google results doesn't help, either. On the Riak home page there's no clue of this, you have to go to Github and dig in the issues.
I'd suggest to place a clear banner in the readme clarifying the repo status, as the project looks like quite live. It would be sad the project to traction due to potential users not reaching it.
Pinging @russelldb (sole basho org member) and @reiddraper (top commiter) to get them noticed.

As a side note, Basho's website does little for keeping the project alive, IMHO. A better public page would be great. Such apparent lack of further development might hold back potential users, too.

Riak CS 3.x code:

Development is ongoing, so it's worthwhile checking for newer tags, packages and docs.

Thanks for the links, @pjaclark. Having all of them together will be useful for readers, indeed. Let's hope that Basho's maintainers help with making the forked project discovery easier.
