Slack signup

Due to spammers (like in the screenshot below), we can't enable automatic signup anymore and will have to do it manually.

I guess we need an email to invite though, can add a comment here (you can delete it once you are in if you want, or if it's in your profile).

Since this is manual we aren't going to be doing this immediately since we have stuff to do as well 😅 which is why we had the auto thing in the first place)

Could we try something like recaptcha before moving away from auto signup? Or are these definitely humans making the accounts in the first place?

@ljharb We already had a reCAPTCHA on the page. It didn't help, and in fact even more spam accounts signed up after we added the CAPTCHA.

Slack is not designed for our use case at all (an open chat room where anyone can join), so it doesn't have proper tooling to help with this, and I doubt they'll ever add anything to help. For example, there's no way to turn off PMs, no way to have manual approval for signups, nor is there a way to ban people by IP directly in Slack itself.
