I haven't been able to find a list or comparison of the various Usenet binary uploaders/posters out there, so I've decided to make one. Please feel free to edit this page to improve it, amend mistakes, update information, etc.

Explanation of columns:

  • Development Status: whether the application is still actively maintained or not, based on my guess of activity
  • License Type: whether the application is commercial (pay to use), freely available, or freely available with source code (FOSS)
  • UI Type: the interface of the application, which is either a command line interface (CLI), graphical user interface (GUI) or background service (Daemon)
  • Multi Connections: whether the application supports uploading via multiple connections to speed up transfers
  • SSL: whether the application has built-in SSL support. Note that SSL support can be added to any application if a tunnel, such as stunnel, is used
  • Checking: whether the application supports checking for the existence of posts after they have been submitted to the server, as an additional measure to ensure completion
  • Archiving: whether the application supports automatically wrapping input files into an archive, such as RAR. Usually this is done by calling an external application. For applications that don't support this integration, archives can be prepared before uploading
  • PAR Support: whether the application integrates PAR file creation. For applications that don't bundle integration, PAR files can be prepared manually before upload
  • Platform/Runtime: what platform/OS the application can run under, and somewhat includes the language that the application was primarily written in. For applications which run on an interpreter, the OS will usually depend on what the interpreter can run on

Note that "Fork" indicates a feature which doesn't exist in the official version of the application, but has been added in a fork/mod of it.
