classic instead of confined #3
Comments
Hi Christian, my plan was to create a classic and a strict snap. I'm just cleaning up the git-tree and will publish it soon. In futher version of snapd, the classic confinment will be disabled. They are working on that. |
Uh, do you mean that it will be disabled in your snap or the feature will be removed from the snap package format? Do you have a reference to this? |
I heard it in a conversation on irc. Until then I will support both, classic and strict. I think classic mode will be still there for the next years. |
@christianrauch Would it be okay, if sway is strict, but able to launch other applications in classic-mode ? What features are you using in "swaybar" ? Should it be "classic" or is it enougt to read network, battery, cpu, and so on ? I asked, because on snapstore it is now difficult to publish classic snaps. |
I initially wanted to use a sway snap to test Wayland clients, but I am also interested to use it as a desktop to replace GNOME etc. For the first case, a confined environment is fine, but for full desktop usage, I don't see how confinement is going to work. The confined egmde snap adds client apps (neverball, stellarium, kodi) to the snap to demonstrate the use, but I don't think this is a longterm solution to be able to provide a desktop environment inside a snap. |
interesting. Just launched a request for "sway-classic" |
The snap is currently set to
confinement: devmode
which later will probably be promoted tostrict
. This will prevent executing other programs from inside sway. I would propose to set the confinement to classic to allow running as a full desktop and executing other programs. The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
