It is already hard enough to find monospace Arabic font, so I want to request to extend the support of this font to cover Jawi, which is the Arabic script that is used to write the Malay language (and several other languages in my region).

There might be additional letters for other languages that use Jawi, but my request here is only to extend support for Jawi letters used in the Malay language. Jawi letters in other languages should be requested by their users as I don't even know which letters they would use.

This is because I'm expecting the user of Jawi alphabet will increase online in all different sectors, as internet coverage is improving in Malaysia and Brunei. Jawi is co-official script with Latin to write Malay language in Brunei and in several states of Malaysia (most notably Pahang, the state in Malaysia that made it mandatory to display all street signs, commercial signage and billboards with both Jawi and Latin when writing Malay, punishable by state law for imobedience)

You can see them everywhere if you're in the states of Pahang, Kelantan, and Terengganu in Malaysia, plus Brunei. Picture below is from the states in Malaysia:

Jawi already uses some of the basic Arabic letters so those parts doesn't need to be modified, however I want to request inclusion of these letters since they're not currently supported by the font:

  1. ڠ
    codepoint: U+06A0
unicode name: Arabic Letter Ain with Three Dots Above
malay name: Huruf Nga (Letter Nga)
    sound: /ŋ/
proposal: take letter Ain (ع) as the base and take the three dots from letter Sheen (ش)

  2. ݢ
    codepoint: U+0762
unicode name: Arabic Letter Keheh with Dot Above
malay name: Huruf Ga (Letter Ga)
    sound: /g/
proposal: take letter Keheh (ک) as the base and take the one dot from letter Khah (خ)

  3. ۏ
    codepoint: U+06CF
unicode name: Arabic Letter Waw with Dot Above
malay name: Huruf Va (Letter Va)
    sound: /v/
proposal: take letter Waw (و) as the base and take the one dot from letter Khah (خ)

  4. ڽ
    codepoint: U+06BD
unicode name: Arabic Letter Noon with Three Dots Above
malay name: Huruf Nya (Letter Nya)
    sound: /ɲ/
proposal: this one is a bit complicated, take letter Noon (ن) as the base, remove the one dot, then depending on positions: for standalone and ending use three dots from letter Veh (ڤ), for medial and beginning use three dots from letter Tcheh (چ)

  5. ٴ
    codepoint: U+0674
unicode name: Arabic Letter High Hamza
malay name: Hamzah Tiga Suku (Three Quarter Hamza)
    sound: /ʔ/
proposal: take full size Hamza (ء) and raise it to three quarter position, it is standalone letter, not to be combined with other letters

  6. codepoint: U+2E41
    unicode name: Reversed Comma
malay name: Koma Jawi (Jawi Comma)
proposal: take Arabic Comma (،) and mirror it then rotate 180°

  7. codepoint: U+204F
    unicode name: Reversed Semicolon
malay name: Koma Bertitik Jawi (Jawi Semicolon)
proposal: take Arabic Semicolon (؛) and mirror it then rotate 180°

Can see the part where those letters are used in this example, and I put Amiri font as reference on how it should be connected:

Other letters in Jawi are already supported by Kawkab Mono font, those are the basic letters found in common Arabic language plus these additional letters not in Arabic language:

  1. چ (U+0686 - Arabic Letter Tcheh)
Known in Malay as Huruf Ca (Letter Ca), sound /t͡ʃ/
  2. ڤ (U+06A4 - Arabic Letter Veh)
Known in Malay as Huruf Pa (Letter Pa), sound /p/
  3. ک (U+06A9 - Arabic Letter Keheh)
Known in Malay as Huruf Kaf (Letter Kaf), sound /k/
  4. ى (U+0649 - Arabic Letter Alef Maksura)
Known in Malay as Huruf Ye (Letter Ye), sound /ə/
  5. أ (U+0623 - Arabic Letter Alef with Hamza Above)
Known in Malay as Huruf Alif Berhamzah (Letter Alef with Hamza), used as a part of diphtongs that can't be used with standalone hamza nor without any hamza
Example: أيمن (aiman) is different from اٴيمن (a'iman) and ايمن (iman)

Additional letters that is rarely used in Malay but is also supported by the font:

  1. ئ (U+0626 - Arabic Letter Yeh with Hamza Above)
  2. ؤ (U+0624 - Arabic Letter Waw with Hamza Above)
  3. ك (U+0643 - Arabic Letter Kaf)
ئ and ؤ were used in old Malay to separate vowel in diphthongs, now uses standalone three quarter hamza (ٴ) instead. ك is used when ک was not accessible on normal keyboard, it's deprecated in Malay now.

Additional letter that is rarely used in Malay and doesn't support by the font anyway:

  1. ڬ (U+06AC - Arabic Letter Kaf with Dot Above)
ڬ is used when ݢ was not accessible on normal keyboard, it's deprecated in Malay now.

Comparison on the non-Arabic-language Arabic-alphabets in Malay language, some supported by Kawkab Mono and some don't:

Note that I don't currently have any device that could run Glyph software (I currently live with my Android phone after my laptop broke earlier this year, and currently unemployed due to COVID-19 movement control order) so I can't add these letters myself, hence my request to you or anyone out there who could add them to do so.
