[FeatureRequest] Retail Office (and others) Download sites #138
Comments
I'm not certain this is needed. These entries are already on the End User page and they will guide you to those software installs pretty easily My Account - Consumer - https://account.microsoft.com/ Getting into "downloads" links could get into sketchy territory where we might have to worry about whether a link is official, legitimate, legal, etc. If you wanted to list out several places of "download centers' - but not direct links - it might be useful, but it might just be better on the related Admin or User page, right? |
Download centers makes more sense than trying to do individual items. Its just that not everything is at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/default.aspx |
I'd say whatever the top level documentation page for the product is, SHOULD have a download link. I know that's not the case, but to me that's where it should be maintained. |
@Computer-Tsu give me some download links and I'll create a subsection on the admin page for downloads |

Patch megathread (Reddit?) Backblaze drivestats MSP RMM spreadsheet (reddit or mspuser) For third party portal if not already added https://endoflife.date/EveryMac.com How to download and install macOS macOS Catalina (https://apps.apple.com/sg/app/macos-catalina/id1466841314?mt=12) To get versions before these, you need to download them without the App Store. Currently, Apple offers direct links going as far back as OS X Yosemite (10.10). macOS Sierra(http://updates-http.cdn-apple.com/2019/cert/061-39476-20191023-48f365f4-0015-4c41-9f44-39d3d2aca067/InstallOS.dmg) macOS Sonoma 14 InstallersMacOS Sonoma 14 is currently the latest stable version of MacOS system software from Apple:
MacOS Ventura 13 Installers
macOS Monterey 12 Installers
macOS Big Sur 11 Installers
macOS Catalina 10.15, Mojave 10.14, High Sierra 10.13 Installers
macOS Sierra 10.12, OS X El Capitan 10.11, OS X Yosemite 10.10 Installers
Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8, Mac OS X Lion 10.7, InstallersMany of these MacOS installers arrive as InstallAssistant.pkg files that will extract the full installer into the /Applications folder on the Mac. New versions of MacOS installers are typically available through the Mac App Store, accessed through a computer that is compatible with the latest Mac system software release. Older versions of Mac OS X installers can often be downloaded as well, but from different sources. For earlier versions of Mac OS X, including Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9, Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8, Mac OS X Lion 10.7, Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6, Mac OS X Leopard 10.5, Mac OS X Tiger 10.4, and before, the process to obtain those installers differs a bit. Downloading MacOS Installers via TerminalMac users can download the latest macOS installer available from the Terminal by using the following command string:
You can also download specific installer versions by using the following syntax, replacing the asterisks with version number:
For example, to get macOS 11.3.1 the syntax would be as follows:
Downloading Mac OS X Installers from App Store “Purchases”If you had at one point in time purchased or downloaded a version of MacOS or Mac OS X from the Mac App Store, then you should be able to re-download it from the Mac App Store by going go the “Purchases” section. This can typically be used to access downloads for installers for MacOS Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, Mavericks, and Mountain Lion, though there are some caveats and exceptions.
This works particularly well if the Mac you’re downloading the software onto is running an older version of Mac OS X. This approach for re-downloading older OS X installers from App Store Purchases section works for obtaining many older versions of Mac OS X, particularly if the machine doing the downloading is running an older Mac release too. For example, re-downloading Mavericks from Yosemite, whereas if you’re running the App Store from newer versions of MacOS you’d need to follow the links further above to download the installers directly, or via the App Store links. Downloading Mac OS X Snow LeopardIf you’re a registered Apple developer then you may be able to download Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Mac OS X Leopard directly from Apple ADC using the following links:
Downloading / Buying Mac OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, Mac OS X Snow LeopardApple also sells some older Mac OS X versions for convenience: |
Lots of information! I think general software downloads goes down a whole other path that we can't support. I think there's a bunch of links in the above that could be incorporated Main links like How to download and install macOS https://support.apple.com/en-us/102662 yes but not listing every possible OS version This is going to take some time to work through... |
I hope the draft is more of thought provoking and opens up ideas and suggestions. What have you ever had to work to find or need on a frequent basis? What things relate to our user-base? I'm happy to do the research for links and descriptions of anything you'd like to see. Thank you |
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe
Its hard to find where to download install media on Microsoft. This example is for Office 2016 and 2019 retail.
Describe the solution you'd like
Consider adding a downloads category to the msportals.io
There could be other sites outside of microsoft.com/downloads
such as Windows OS ISO
Patches/updates catalog portal
Describe alternatives you've considered
This would be an expansion of the original scope and description of the project?
