I would like to not only put links to local files on the bottom right but also external links. I would be fine too I there was another [[extra.footer.?]] for this.

I encountered similar requirement in https://gitlab.com/islandoftex/islandoftex.gitlab.io/-/merge_requests/1, hence opened a PR to propose a new (optional boolean) option extra.footer.nav.is_absolute_url.
