The form field and button used in the search field currently appear entirely unstyled:

136254955-23f2b43a-12f9-4654-a6fd-a0022c7754b0

These styles are largely not customizable via Global Styles or theme.json, which means that every block theme is forced to provide styles via CSS.

To prevent this, we should consider providing some default styles to ensure that this block works nicely right out of the box.

I think the best way forward here is to use an "element button": #40260

We still need element support for the input field.

I disagree. We still don't have a way to target the text input.
